Description
Pre-requisites
There are no prerequisites for the Advanced Cardio Programming course, however this course is intended for fitness professionals seeking an advanced understanding of cardiorespiratory training principles.
Section 1 – Introduction to the NASM Cardiorespiratory Training Model
This lesson covers the key differences between physical activity and structured exercise, the components of the Health-Fitness-Performance Continuum in the context of cardiorespiratory exercise, and the rationale for optimizing cardiorespiratory training protocols.
Section 2 – Bioenergetic Overview
This lesson discusses the relationship between energy and calories in human nutrition and physical activity, the roles of different macronutrients in energy production, the contributions of anaerobic and aerobic energy pathways, and the principles of bioenergetics for developing effective exercise programs.
Section 3 – Cardiorespiratory Assessments
This lesson analyzes the physiological basis of ventilatory thresholds (VT1 and VT2), the Continuous Talk Method for identifying VT1, designing cardiorespiratory fitness programs based on VT1 and VT2 assessments, and evaluating the effectiveness of different cardiorespiratory fitness assessments.
Section 4 – Programming for Aerobic Efficiency
This lesson covers mathematical formulas for estimating maximal heart rate, designing aerobic efficiency cardiorespiratory training programs using the FITT-VPP principle, and applying Ratings of Perceived Exertion (RPE) methods to estimate exercise intensity.
Section 5 – Programming for Interval Training
This lesson discusses the physiological impacts of different interval training methods on energy systems, designing interval training programs to optimize work-to-recovery ratios, evaluating the effectiveness of various interval training formats, and applying principles of variable-intensity interval training.
Final Exam
After completing the course, you will take an online final exam. The exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions. To pass, you need to score 70% or higher. The exam has no time limit, and unlimited exam attempts are allowed.
