Not Just Placebos! Busy as a B!

There is a delicate balance at play within your body. Everyday it seeks to maintain homeostasis so that you can function optimally and all of your metabolic processes can run smoothly. Your body regulates everything to the best of its ability and keeps you fit and healthy- all it asks in return is that you provide it with the raw ingredients and tools necessary for it to do its job!

Unfortunately this is becoming increasingly difficult in our modern society. We are fixated on speed and convenience rather than nutrient density and quality. So sometimes in the midst of looking after the kids, our parents, our partners, keeping on top of housework and career aspirations we can come up a little short in the nutrient stakes. This happens periodically and is nothing to worry about provided you manage to reign it in and get back on track but sometimes that’s easier said than done, and sometimes stressful situations can last for weeks and months. This is where supplementation can really help keep you healthy, focused and energised. Especially supplementing with a broad spectrum B Vitamin complex.

The members of what’s known as the vitamin B complex (B vitamins — B1(Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin), B3 (Niacin), B5 (Pantothenic Acid), B6 (Pyridoxine), B7 (Biotin), B9 (Folate), B12 (Cobalamin)) are closely chemically related and are critical nutrients for all things mind-related: mood and memory as well as unlocking the energy potential of our food!

Collectively they have a vast array of jobs; some B vitamins help cells burn fats and glucose for energy. Others help make neurotransmitters like serotonin. And some assist with the production and repair of DNA. B-Vitamins positively support many
metabolic functions, including carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism, proper nervous system function, food to energy conversion, red blood cell / hemoglobin formation, and they help improve mood and memory, while providing a better stress-coping ability.

Because B vitamins are water soluble we have little to no storage capacity so we need to replenish our stores daily. If we fail to do this then the resulting fatigue and poor mood can really have a negative effect on our lives.

If you are under daily stress (from work, family or training) then you probably need to supplement your diet with a B vitamin complex for a period to assist your body in producing much needed neurotransmitters and unlocking the energy potential of food.

Symptoms of deficiency include:
◦ Anemia
◦ Fatigue
◦ Depression
◦ Hair loss
◦ Eczema
◦ Muscle cramping
◦ Loss of appetite
◦ Numbness and tingling in arms and legs

Vitamin B Complex

B Vitamins are vitally important and benefits include:

-Easing Stress
-Treat anxiety and depression
-Aid memory
-Relieve PMS
-Reduce heart-disease risk
-Promoting cell growth and division
-Maintaining healthy skin and muscle tone
-Supporting and increasing the rate of metabolism
-Enhancing immune and nervous system function
-Improving mood

Due to the synergistic effect and interrelated action of the B vitamins, supplementing with a complex can be far more effective that singling out certain B vitamins to take alone.

Another thing that can exponentially increase the need for B Vitamin supplementation is alcohol consumption! So anyone planning on having a few tonight would greatly benefit from taking a supplement before they head out, and first thing tomorrow morning, along with plenty of water to alleviate the possibility of a hangover and help reduce negative effects on the body!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful bank holiday weekend!
