No Home Internet in January

Are you wise? Why would you do that? What’s wrong with you? Don’t be stupid. I could never do that. You won’t be able to do it.

These are just a few of the comments and questions that I received when I mentioned to people that I will be switching off my Home Internet for the month of January.

It just goes to show how reliant the world is on the Internet.

2016 for me was all about challenging myself in so far as doing things that I never thought I could. It was also about experimentation into new ways of living.

2017 is where I step things up a gear – in all aspects of my life.

Why am I doing this?

Firstly, It’s a challenge. Especially when the only TV I can watch is Apple TV (which only works with the Internet). So, having no Internet for the month will also mean having no TV – a double challenge. I can get distracted quite easily with television (hence the reason I don’t have Sky or Terrestrial channels in my home).

Secondly, I want to be MORE productive. I want to read MORE, write MORE, study MORE, exercise MORE, spend MORE time with my friends and those who I care about. I want to be MORE intentional with my time. I’m not saying that home internet is totally the problem but it makes it pretty cushy to stay in my house.

This doesn’t mean that I won’t have the internet full stop, it just means that I will have to be more intentional with my time when using it – I will have to go to coffee shops, libraries and the office when I need to get things done and schedule my time.

This all came about after I watched a short documentary called Finding Paul Miller (17 minutes – Check it out) He went cold turkey and had no internet for an entire year (I would love to try this down the line at some stage).

So, in the end I am looking to challenge myself and also become a lot more intentional with my time. Oh and I also want to prove those people wrong who said I can’t do it. Boom.

Why not challenge yourself? You never know what you are capable of.

Health and Happiness.
