Don’t Know What to do with Your Life? That’s Ok

Fit Mind Matters

I remember the song “Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)” by Baz Luhrmann coming out in 1999/2000 and absolutely loving it.

It was totally different to anything I ever heard before.

If you haven’t heard this song then please go and listen to it RIGHT NOW (then come back to finish reading this post – don’t worry I’ll wait)

………………………………………

And Welcome Back!

So, the lyrics were fascinating. It was life advice to us all from someone, seemingly, a lot older and wiser.

21/22 years later I am listening to the song and it still gets me every time.

When we are growing up we set a path for ourselves to what we want to do with our lives because we need a career, right? We need to know at the age of 18 what we are going to do with the years ahead of us, right?

Wrong.

Life is a real roller-coaster (excuse the Ronan Keating song reference) and no matter how much planning you do it will always pop it’s head up and say “Got You”.

Below are some of the lyrics from ‘Wear Sunscreen’:

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life
The most interesting people I know
Didn’t know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives
Some of the most interesting 40-year-olds I know still don’t

I am hitting 40 in August and I can honestly say I still don’t know what I want to do with my life (and that’s ok). I am going to enjoy the ride.

I say this so that you know not to be too hard on yourself if you don’t have a decisive plan set out for your life. Try everything.

Enjoy every minute you can folks, that’s what life is about.

Health and Happiness
